Week 14: Playoffs

An amazing finish to the regular season with half the league scoring over 100 points and 4 teams scoring their most of the season. But, now it's down to the nitty gritty, playoffs! That three week battle where we whittle six teams down until we get to that all important game, the Kibble Bowl!

Note To Owners:
For those of you who are not in the playoffs, or those who will eventually be eliminated from the playoffs, as usual, disregard the "Consolation" games. They will have no affect on our league's standings.

Week 13 Highlights:
In our last preview, we asked if the Bad Ass Weazels could finish the regular season on a six game win streak. Well, they did it with a 92-82 win over the Dancers. Despite only one ball handler finding the endzone, the Weazels won thanks to a decent effort by their DST which allowed only 6 points. Also, QB Fitzpatrick managed 17 points despite 3 INT's. The Dancers saw good numbers from TE Davis and K Gostkowski. But, the rest of the team didn't contribute as much. And, their starting RB's were outscored by their benched counterparts.

The Dabalalas ended their four game losing streak with an 82-74 win over the DaBruDoggies. Other than their running squad and defense, there wasn't a whole lot of sparks coming out of the Brus. Their receivers combined for just 10 points. And, the Seahawks defense made QB Brees look like a rookie. The Las saw much better output from their receivers with 45 points. They, however, were let down by their RB's. Either way, the Las can hold their heads high for ending their slump and finishing the season with a win.

What a finish for the Pandemic of Love. They matched their franchise record high, destroying the Mighty Long Dogs 151-86. The Pandemic saw a few good performances. QB Brady threw for over 300 yards and 2 TD's, and their RB's combined for 3 TD's and 38 points. But, there's no doubt that WR Decker was the star of the show with an impressive 4 TD's for 41 points, one shy of the record which happens to be held by the Love. It wasn't a good week for the Long Dogs as they scored they second lowest of the season. However, the combination of QB Stafford and WR Johnson proved fruitful with the two accounting for almost half of the the Dogs total points.

The ic chargers and the Love Supremes had what was probably the most exciting game of the season. With chargers QB Manning throwing 5 TD's and the Supies WR's combining for 50 points and 3 TD's, this was destined to be a high scorer on both sides of the ball. The two teams wrestle back and forth on Sunday, always within just a few points apart. Even going into the Monday night game, the teams were tied with a single player yet to play for both. In the end, RB Lynch managed to score just enough to give the Supies the edge, and the 127-126 win.

Another majorly lopsided victory, this time by the Killer Bunnies who crushed the Half Smokes 147-93. It was definitely Smokies QB Newton who kept this from being a much more lopsided loss. Also, WR Bryant and TE Graham saw double digits. But, the headline for this game revolves around Bunnies WR Gordon. His 40 points puts him at #3 in the BFL WR records list. Other standouts include QB Smith and his 2 TD's and RB Jackson and his 2 TD's.

A few good efforts by the Cheesesteaks last week. Their runners put up 3 TD's. Their Eagles DST produced 2 INT's and 5 sacks. And, QB Wilson had his best game of the season with 3 TD's. But, the Steaks were overshadowed by a monster performance by the Lancelot Links who scored their best of the season. The Links scored two bonuses with both RB Peterson and WR Jeffrey each producing over 200 yards. And, TE Gronkowski was strong with 18 points, as well as their Bengals DST with a couple of sacks and recovered fumbles. The Links dominated this one. And, with their 149-110 win, they maintain their first round Bye.

Speaking of the Lancelot Links, owner Joey is in our spotlight.

Spotlight:
Joey, some would say that the Lancelot Links are one of the most successful teams in the BFL. This season, you won the regular season scoring record for the third time. You won your fourth division title in a row. You're this year's regular season champion. And, you won third place over all in the 2011 season. But, there's one thing that has eluded the Links, a Kibble Bowl appearance. Is this the year that you, one of the BFL's original owners, makes it to week 16?

I wish I could take full credit for engineering this road, but the real brains behind the team this year is Barkley. When I mentioned something about a Kibble Bowl, he demanded to take over as head coach. As incentivized as he is, I wonder if he'll be disappointed that there's no actual kibble involved. Or it could be that I've been lucky this season. . .

Quarterfinal Preview:
The 1st place Lancelot Links and 2nd place ic chargers have earned a 1st round Bye.

Killer Bunnies (Wildcard)   vs   Bad Ass Weazels (#4)

With the Bad Ass Weazels on a six game win streak, they have a lot of momentum going into the playoffs and their matchup against the Killer Bunnies. The Guru is predicting double digits by all of the Weazels' receivers. Although, most of them are facing top 10 pass defenses, so they'll need to overcome that hurdle. For the Bunnies, it'll be curious to see how RB Morris handles the Chiefs defense. IADP is expecting good numbers from QB Smith and WR Cruz. Looks like this one will be a coin tosser.

Mighty Long Dogs (Wildcard)     vs     Half Smokes (#3)

The Half Smokes have had a couple of so so weeks and losses as of late, so they are due for a win and maybe a return to the 115 point average they had up to their last win. Despite being owned by the Seahawks offense last week, the Saints defense should give Smokies QB Newton a run for his money. We're guessing that the Mighty Long Dogs will do well in their air attack. QB Stafford and his NFL teammates WR's Johnson and Burleson should do well against a lowly Eagles pass defense, as well as WR Streater against a similar Jets defense. This just might be a close one also.

Good luck playoff teams! See you next edition!
